What is your favourite card you’ve designed for Sunshine Llama, and why?

My favourite card I designed for Lucy was the ‘congrats you filthy slag’ new baby/pregnancy card. I think the cute imagery against the bluntest wording makes it hilarious.

Can you tell us a little bit more about your design process? What do you enjoy most about the design process?

It often varies, sometimes I’ll have an idea for a range in my head for ages which I’ll take time to develop, other times something will spark my inspiration like a new tv show or song where I create something very quickly in reaction to the trend. The variety is what I enjoy most!

How did you get into illustration/design?

I studied textile design at university and then went to do a masters in Graphic Arts. I went on to work as a children’s book designer while creating cards on the side and now it’s my full time job!

Where do you find inspiration?

As mentioned before, often popular culture is a big inspo point for me. But also I love the children’s market after working as a book designer- a day with my nephew often gives me lots of new ideas for children’s cards.

Who is your favourite designer/artist/creative person?

I love David Shrigley for his total random-quirkiness! His work is totally different to anything I would come up with so I find him so refreshing.

Do you have any top tips for aspiring designers?

Don’t expect success to happen overnight but stick at it! Also practice practice practice- my work has improved so much over the years.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself 🙂

I’m a farmers daughter so learnt to drive when I was about 11 years old (in the fields of course!)

What is your favourite film?

Any of the Harry Potters on a rainy day is the one!

What is your star sign?

Capricorn- ambitious and hardworking are our traits which I’d say is true for me!
