What is your favourite card you’ve designed for Sunshine Llama and why?
Out of all the cards I’ve designed for Sunshine Lama, my absolute favorite has to be the one featuring the gay party scene with the pear leather bear. This particular design is very close to my heart, and I’m proud of how it turned out. It was inspired by my own personal experiences in the club scene as a queer person, where I had an amazing time with other members of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies.
Can you tell us a little bit more about your design process? What do you enjoy most?
My design process varies from piece to piece, but usually, I begin by setting up my drawing station with my Apple Pencil, iPad, and a nice cup of tea. To get into the creative zone, I sometimes like to put on a show or some music in the background. During the design process, I’m often accompanied by one or two of my cats who keep me company
How did you get into illustration/design?
After studying contemporary art, I discovered the joy of creating playful and lighthearted illustrations that don’t take themselves too seriously. Illustration has been a wonderful escape from the pressures and expectations that come with being a traditional artist in the art world. While the art world can be challenging and unpredictable, illustration provides me with a more stable and rewarding career path. I’m grateful for the opportunity to dabble in both worlds, but I feel more grounded and fulfilled as an illustrator.
Where do you find inspiration?
I believe that inspiration is all around us, and sometimes, the key is not to look too hard. I often find myself in everyday situations, thinking ‘this would make a cute illustration.’ There’s so much joy in taking something ordinary and turning it into something whimsical and playful. That’s the magic of illustration – it allows us to see the world in a different way and inject a bit of humor into our daily lives.
Who is your favourite designer/artist/creative person?
It’s difficult to pick just one, as I’ve been influenced by a range of artists and creatives across different disciplines. I’ve always admired Olafur Eliasson’s work and his unique approach to the creative process. Tacita Dean’s work has a certain magic to it that has always inspired me. In terms of music, there are a few musicians who have played a significant role in my creative development. For example, Freddie Mercury, who also designed the iconic Queen logo, has always been an inspiration to me. David Bowie’s genderbending persona and artistic expression have also had a special place in my heart.

What’s been the best part about working with Sunshine Llama? What have you enjoyed most?
I had a great time collaborating with Sunshine Lama. It was fun to bounce ideas off the team and receive their feedback throughout the process. I don’t often work with words incorporated into my illustrations, so it was a fun challenge to try something new and different with the Sunshine Lama team.

While it may sound like a typical answer, I have to say that ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ is probably my favorite film. I just love the bold and unapologetic nature of the whole thing. It’s a queer classic for a reason and has become an iconic part of LGBTQ+ culture.
