What is your favourite card you’ve designed for Sunshine Llama and why?
I love my new cake range as the cards are bright and fun. The inspiration for these cakes came from all the cool 80’s style flamboyant cakes that are back in fashion, and the Wes Anderson film ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’.
Can you tell us a little bit more about your design process? What do you enjoy most?
I love the ideas part, when I am making mood boards and researching and then doing little rough sketches of my ideas. It’s exciting when you have that ‘lightbulb moment’! I also love drawing in procreate on my ipad.
How did you get into illustration/design?
I have always loved to draw and did my degree in textiles and printmaking. I worked as a designer in the fashion industry for many years before finding my true love for illustration and greetings cards during lockdown.
Where do you find inspiration?
I am inspired by music, art, travel, fashion and my kids. In short, I take inspiration from everywhere!
Who is your favourite designer/artist/creative person?
Bjork, as she is unique and always inspiring. My favourite traditional artist is probably Matisse, for his use of colour and adding pattern into everything. I am also inspired everyday by all the amazing illustrators showing their work on Instagram.
Do you have any top tips for aspiring designers?
Start before you are ready. Don’t be afraid to show people your work and get feedback. Always keep drawing and learning new skills.
What’s been the best part about working with Sunshine Llama? What have you enjoyed most?
I am just getting started and I am really excited to work with Sunshine Llama!
Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
I had a grown up gap year travelling the world (best year ever) and I want to plan a ‘grey gap year’ when the kids have left home!
What’s your favourite film? Why?
‘Withnail and I’. The most quotable lines, the funniest script by Bruce Robinson, Richard E Grant’s amazing comic performance and it’s set where I grew up, Camden, London.
What’s your star sign?
