What is your favourite card you’ve designed for Sunshine Llama, and why?

Best of the Bunch’, a card we created for Mother’s Day, springs to mind when having to pick a favourite. Appropriately I should add, similar to mums settling bickering kids discussing favouritism, all the designs are loved equally. It’s my favourite because the ideas for this card came from thinking about the strong female leads in all our lives which was an absolute joy. We created this card that’s fun, endearing and loud – true traits of mums (especially after a vino!)

Can you tell us a little bit more about your design process? What do you enjoy most about the design process?

The process usually starts by squeezing out every single possibility onto a blank page. I like to push the initial creative spark, in this instance tag lines for the cards, as far as possible before reigning it again as a more refined design. From here I make as many thumbnails as I can to test out fonts, colour schemes and compositions until I find winning image for the brief. This starting point has a true buzz about it and is always my favourite part in the design process letting my imagination run wild.

How did you get into illustration/design?

Around the age of 14 I found myself drawing all the time. I filled up any spare minute with filling up sketchbook after sketchbook. Taking Art as a subject all the way through school, Illustration really became my career path on Art foundation. The course helped me discover what direction the copious amounts of sketchbook were moving in, and it’s been full steam ahead ever since. A true love to last a lifetime.

Where do you find inspiration?

Absolutely everywhere! The everyday world around me, the things people say, the things animals do, the way light hits at different times of the day, Pinterest, Instagram, Fashion shows and campaigns or the way we decorate our homes. Everywhere!

Who is your favourite designer/artist/creative person?

Audrey Helen Weber – a genius.

Do you have any top tips for aspiring designers?

Just ask! Opportunities are all around you waiting to happen. They are even more accessible now with the tools of social media. There is no harm is getting in touch and asking. What’s the worst that will happen?

Tell us a fun fact about yourself 🙂

Michael Caine once asked me where the cocoa butter was at a retail job.

What is your favourite film?

It depends on whose asking. Artistically, ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by good old Wes Anderson. Secretly, ‘About Time’ by Richard Curtis.

What is your star sign?

Aquarius. Obviously!
