Father’s Day is right around the corner! The 19th of June, to be precise!

If you get stuck finding the perfect gift for your dad – maybe he has everything, is fussy, or doesn’t even know what he wants himself –  there’s no need to fear. We’ve put together the perfect Father’s Day gift guide to make the shopping experience for your old man as easy as pork pie.

Because we’re all about community at Lucy Maggie Designs, we’ve included a selection of gifts from local Liverpool makers and businesses for all types of dads; the young, the old and the new. From Liverpool-inspired beers and local cheeses to football prints, clothing, aromatherapy (yes that’s right!) and workshops, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect gift to show you care all whilst supporting some of our fave independent Liverpool shops, artists and businesses.

Showcase your Liverpool Pride through Local Artist Grace Emily

Grace Emily captures the bold and colourful essence of our wonderful city in her striking Liverpool-inspired illustrations. Her drawings of local landmarks include the renowned Liver Building, the Albert Docks and Sefton Park Palm House. Our personal favourite is her Liverpool cityscape, which uses expressive line work and bold splashes of colour to bring to life some of the most iconic landmarks in Liverpool, making it the perfect gift for any proud Scouser!

Who Doesn’t Love Cheese?

Woolton-based award-winning cheese shop The Liverpool Cheese Company is a sure hit for Father’s Day. They offer a wide selection of fine cheeses, hampers and even cakes made of cheese for those who like a pudding but don’t have a sweet tooth!

Check out their Father’s Day Hamper, which includes some firm favourites with The Liverpool Cheese Company customers, including:

  • Firey Cheddar
  • Kick-Ass Cheddar
  • Picos Blue
  • Baron Bigod British Brie

… along with a selection of chutneys and sourdough biscuits. We think you’ll agree, it sounds absolutely, mouth-wateringly delicious!

You can order the hamper online via their website or pop into their quaint shop in Woolton village. We recommend the latter!

What would a Father’s Day gift guide be without a craft beer recommendation?!

With so many independent breweries to choose from, it can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to whittling down the perfect bevvy for Dad. Why not go with our choice and pick something from the fantastic Love Lane Brewery?

The Baltic-based, award-winning craft brewery and distillery is a local favourite and is located just a stone’s throw away from our studio in the Baltic Creative’s Northern Lights Building. We love their Baltic Haze Series Two brew with its big citrus and stone fruit notes… but, then again, we all know that beer flavours are subjective. If your Dad prefers to sit in the driving seat when it comes to choosing his tipple, why not treat him to a voucher so he can pick from Love Lane’s extensive collection? Or if that idea still doesn’t cut it, staff at Love Lane also run a Brewery Tour every Saturday and Sunday, which includes a tasting of 3 beers for £20pp!

Is Dad a Liverpool Fan, Man?

We came across this original Liverpool FC football print and just HAD to add it to our cheeky little gift guide. The Liverpool squad is the strongest it’s been in years, and local designer Josh Catchpole has taken it upon himself to capture the team’s success through his tactical print, displaying the strength and depth of the squad. If your dad loves minimal art, this print is the one for him. Depending on how much of a fan your dad is (or how much of the decision-making Mum is responsible for), you can choose out of three size options: A3, A2 and A1.

Foodie-Loving Dad?

If your Dad is a true ‘foodie’, why not treat him to a voucher for one of Liverpool’s wonderful fooderies!? We recommend Lerpwl on the beautiful and picturesque Albert Dock. Founded by brothers Ellis and Liam Barrie, Lerpwl specialises in fine dining, and uses only the finest seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients in its considered, flavoursome and inspiring dishes. Not only do they serve outstanding food, they also are a dab hand in mixing unique cocktails, including the ‘Old Tobacco Dock’ – a twist on a classic Old-Fashioned that  Dad will most definitely love (be warned though, you may have to foot the bill for more than one if he develops a taste for them!).

Is Dad in Need of Some R&R?

If you’re after something a bit different for Dad this Father’s day, then why not treat him to some aromatherapy products? We know, we know, hear us out….

LV Apothecary specialises in all things body and soul, with some fantastic natural-smelling products, including candles made from 100% pure essential oils, free from artificial nasties and harmful chemicals. These fragrances smell anything but artificial, and because of their natural, expertly mixed combinations of complimentary zests, LV Apothecary is able to offer blends that will delight not just Dad, but all the family. We recommend their Bergamot and Orange diffuser for a fresh-smelling, zingy injection of loveliness in the home – it’s not too feminine, far from sickly, and absolutely scrumptious. You’ll have Dad dancing into the living room, high on citrus fumes in no time!

As well as the exceptional fragrances, they’ve got some incredibly classy sustainable burners to match – ones with a distinctly industrial feel. Their autophagy oil-based burners are handcrafted from driftwood with a beautiful industrial twist, making them the perfect home addition.

Is Your Dad a Coffee Addict?

If, like us, Dad likes his caffeine, why not treat him to a special bag of coffee (or three!) from Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters? Based in the heart of Liverpool, these wizards really know what they’re talking about when it comes to coffee. What’s more, they’ve taken the hard work out when it comes to choosing which to buy with their curated gift sets. We recommend the Great Taste Award Winners Collection, which features five different coffees with an impressive nine Great Taste stars between them. Good, ey?

If you want to go the extra mile, they also offer coffee equipment gift sets.

It’s Not Father’s Day without a Father’s Day Card!

Wait, what? We got this far into our gift guide without doing a shameless greeting card plug?! That’s right, we did. But no longer!

Father’s Day simply isn’t complete without a card, whether that be used as an opportunity to express your unconditional love and gratefulness for Dad’s very being, or simply another opportunity to insult him (we’re usually in the latter camp, but that’s just the sort of people we are here). We have some awesome designs (if we don’t say so ourselves) over on our website for all kinds of dads. DIY dads, gamer dads, grumpy dads and BBQ dads.

Put Him to the Test!

If your dad claims to be the only true ‘know it all’ in the family, why not put him to the test and make an evening of trying to show him up by taking him to a pub quiz? Black Cat Bar and Bottleshop on Smithdown Road run free weekly quizzes on Sundays where you can win a £30 bar tab if you smash the question answering. Because participation is free, you can reserve the cash to get a few rounds in as a Father’s Day gift – and perhaps even throw in a bag of pork scratchings for your old man as a special treat. If your team wins thanks to Dad’s omniscience, at least you can better deal with the smug comments with a nice alcohol buzz. If you lose, Dad will never be able to gloat about his superior knowledge ever again. It’s a win-win!

Make sure you’re following them on Instagram for updates and events.

Looking for Something a Bit Different?

Lucy Maggie Designs is a business founded on creativity, so we wanted to add a little bit of creative flare to our gift guide, too – quite literally!

If you’re truly looking for something completely unique to treat Dad to this Father’s Day, we recommend booking a glass-blowing workshop for him over with our local neighbours Liverpool Hotshop. Running half day, one day and 1-2-1 courses, you’re able to pick the perfect package and give Dad the unique experience of making his own glass vessel, tumbler or vase. Just think of the extravagant beer glass he could conjure to drink his Love Lane Beer from!
