What is your favourite card you’ve designed for Sunshine Llama, and why?

I’d have to say the ‘Tamagotchi Girl’ card. I based the design on a sparkly pink Tamagotchi that I had when I was little so the nostalgia clinches it for me!

Can you tell us a little bit more about your design process? What do you enjoy most about the design process?

My mind is all over the place so I like to get down a rough scribble as soon as an idea comes to me, and then I’ll sit down and play with details and colour until I’m happy with the outcome.

How did you get into illustration/design?

When I was younger I spent a lot of time drawing portraits of all my favourite celebrities (my repertoire mostly consisting of One Direction members…). Through college I realised art as a whole was the only thing I truly felt passionate about and started to take it more seriously, which led me to studying illustration at university.

Where do you find inspiration?

Pinterest! I also have a fascination for pop culture. I love the way references to pop culture, past and present, can transcend geographical and social division. I like to play in to trends in a way that feels authentic to me and my own tastes.

Who is your favourite designer/artist/creative person?

My all time favourite artist has to be Laura Callaghan, primarily because of the way she jam packs her work full of fun details that many other artists might deem unnecessary. Every inch of the image feels intentional and adds so much visual intrigue and context to her diverse and expressive characters. There is also an element of fashion styling in her illustrations that I really love.

Do you have any top tips for aspiring designers?

Try not to overthink too much. It’s so easy to get swept up in seeing art you admire and start questioning your own, but at the end of the day you are your own USP! I’ve also learnt to not get hung up on having a distinct style, because your work will evolve and grow naturally over time. Rushing the process will get you nowhere.

What’s been the best part about working with Sunshine Llama? What have you enjoyed most?

I’ve really enjoyed having a project to work on that has really allowed me to reignite my love of being creative for creativity’s sake. It’s also amazing to have my designs sold alongside so many talented illustrators.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I grew up in France!

What is your favourite film?

My all time favourite film is The Grinch. Nothing beats the magic of Whoville, I’d move there tomorrow if I could.

What is your star sign?

I’m a VERY stereotypical Cancer sun.
